Shands Hospital ContainmentWhen you’re one of the nation’s top teaching hospitals, known for high-tech quality care, comprehensive research and academic programs, having an efficient and reliable IT operation is at the top of the priority list.

That was the case for University of Florida’s (UF) Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.

When it was time to increase its data center capabilities, UF Health Shands Hospital needed a solution that would provide more power and cooling for the hospital’s growing operations.

Because of the unique design of the room configuration, UF Shands chose Chatsworth Products (CPI) to create a custom cabinet and aisle containment solution.

It included a self-supported CPI Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) Solution to address different heights, widths and depths of the ceiling and cabinets and to accommodate vendor-supplied storage solutions.

“We’re the first data center in the state of Florida to have a free-standing Hot Aisle Containment Solution,” exclaimed Brad Kowal, Associate Director of Computer Operations for UF Health Shands Hospital.

CPI’s latest generation of cabinets with enhanced frame design and airflow capabilities were also deployed, including the F-Series TeraFrame® Cabinets with Vertical Exhaust Ducts and N-Series TeraFrame Network Cabinets. Accessories to improve airflow isolation, as well as cable runway and trays, completed the cutting-edge solution.

Thanks to CPI, the hospital’s new data center is now running effectively with efficient cooling, zero hot spots and increased per-cabinet densities.
