AutoCAD and Apple - Together Again

(Design Tools, Tech Tips, Industry News) Permanent link

AppleAfter 18 long years, AutoCAD®, the ubiquitous software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting, is returning to the Mac platform.

Slated for release this fall, AutoCAD 2011 for Mac OS X seems poised to offer a whole new level of accessibility and mobile capabilities for long-time fans and users of the popular software platform.

While it may be a surprise to some that AutoCAD hasn't been available on the Mac side for nearly 20 years, the timing of this announcement certainly seems to coincide with the continued rise of Apple's mobile computing capabilities - namely the iPhone, iPod touch, and recently released iPad.

The news that Apple products across the mobile and desktop spectrums will soon support native .dwg file formats is certainly a welcome sight for many customers, contractors, engineers, architects, and IT managers across our respective industries.

AutoCADFor CPI sales team members and customers alike, this development paves the way for increased access and usability of the all-important .dwg files created on a regular basis by our engineering and design teams. Everything from plan views (top, side, front) of new installations and layouts to new product release renderings should soon see the light of day on many more handheld portable devices that have no doubt become a staple of the business world.

Better still, future plans indicate the ability to not only view such files, but to edit and annotate on-the-go and on the spot - intriguing indeed.

Naturally, CPI remains committed to delighting the customer across all platforms, including the majority of our non-Mac users who already enjoy free access to CAD Blocks of popular CPI Products, hosted on our Design Tools page. Of course, you can rest assured that when advancements such as this strengthen our ability to "optimize, store and secure" your technology equipment infrastructure and equipment, we'll be with you every step of the way.
