Tech Tip of the Week: When Should You Use a UL Classified Cable Runway?

(Cable Pathway, Cable Management) Permanent link

Cable Runway SectionsThe UL Classified Cable Runway (also called ladder rack) can be used in any standard cable runway application.

The National Electric Code (NFPA 70), however, requires the use of UL Classified Cable Runway when it is adopted as an equipment grounding conductor, such as when racks are bonded to the cable runway instead of running an individual ground conductor from the Telecommunications Grounding Bus Bar to each rack.

The UL Classified Cable Runway is a Telco-style, 9’ 8-1/2” long cable runway (ladder rack) with a gold or black chem film over zinc plating. Because UL Classified Cable Runway is zinc plated, it can be bonded together using UL Classified Splices, without the need for ground straps. Installation is therefore, quick and easy.

Chatsworth Products offers two styles of Cable Runway Products – The UL Classified Cable Runway and the Universal Cable Runway.
