New TIA-942A Standard Sets the Record Straight on Cable Pathway

 Permanent link

Before TIA-942A could formally be approved, an issue of plenum-rated cable under access floors needed resolution. While some felt a clause in the original standard presented an unfair bias suggesting the required use of plenum-rated cable in data centers, others saw it as a viable recommendation. In fairness to all, TIA-942A now states: “Cable fire-rating requirements vary by installation conditions and jurisdiction. Consult the AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) before deciding on the type of cable to use under access floors.”

CPI Cable Pathway SolutionsNo matter what type of cabling you decide on (Category 5e/6/6a and/or fiber), and no matter where you need it (under an access floor or overhead), CPI Cable Runway and Tray products provide simple and effective pathway solutions to manage and protect cables while maximizing network uptime. In addition, CPI Cable Pathway:

  • Promotes proper cable bend radii for better data transmission
  • Simplifies moves, adds and changes
  • Meets ANSI/TIA/EIA installation guidelines

To make your next purchase that much easier, CPI offers a comprehensive Cable Fill Table, which lists recommended and maximum cable fill values for all of CPI’s cable management and pathway products. With your choice of a PDF document or easy-to-use spreadsheet (which automatically calculates fill values based on your tabbed product/cable type selections), the CPI Cable Fill Table is an invaluable resource.
