Successful completion of any project involves thorough planning, communication and execution. For construction projects, a necessary part of planning involves the use of published standards that help the project team deliver structures to owners according to their requirements, timelines and budgets.
One widely used standard is MasterFormat, a standard for organizing specifications and other written information for commercial and institutional building projects in the United States and Canada. Sometimes referred to as the "Dewey Decimal System" of building construction, MasterFormat is a product of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and Construction Specifications Canada (CSC). It provides a master list of Divisions, and Section numbers with associated titles within each Division, to organize information about a facility’s construction requirements and associated activities.
Chatsworth Products (CPI) assists our customers with meeting MasterFormat standards by providing CPI product specifications according to MasterFormat Divisions.
CPI product specifications are organized by product. Each specification has three parts:
- Part 1 is general information listing general requirements for a class of products.
- Part 2 is the product specification, which includes a detailed specification of the core product in Section 2.1.A. and key accessory specifications in the following sub-sections (2.1.B., etc.).
- Part 3 is execution listing general installation practices for the product.
Take advantage of CPI’s MasterFormat Specifications to help keep your project on schedule and within budget.
