InformationWeek just published an exclusive look inside six modern data centers in the United States to show the future of computing.

Capital One’s 240,000 sq ft data center in Richmond, Va., was one of them. The facility is LEED Gold certified and a little more than 70% virtualized with sections of high-density blocks of servers, storage and networking in the same racks.

GF-Series GlobalFrame Gen 2 CabinetAs you can see in the picture from the article, the new facility is filled with Chatsworth Products’ (CPI) GF-Series GlobalFrame® Gen 2 Cabinets in Glacier White. The new data center features hot aisle/cold aisle containment, redundant power systems, hardware inventory with RFID tracking technology and an “active-active” data center strategy, which means it communicates with another data center located on the other side of the city as a backup during maintenance or brief outages, according to the article.

The GF-Series GlobalFrame Gen 2 Cabinet System is an industry-standard server and network equipment storage solution that features perforated doors to support front-to-rear airflow for hot aisle/cold aisle or aisle containment applications.

Here are a few features of the cabinets that Capital One relied on to make its state-of-the-art data center:

  • Complies with the UL2416 Listing
  • Supports up to 3,000 pounds (1360 kg) and has been tested to four times weight capacity
  • 78 percent perforation on doors to maximize airflow
  • Front-to-rear rail depths were increased to support deeper equipment
  • Front-door hinge designed for quick and effortless door removal and installation
  • Top and bottom panels include snap on plastic grommets to seal cable openings
