BICSI Logo.jpgCPI Global Technology Manager Ian Seaton and Field Application Engineer John Thompson will team up to during the 2013 BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition for a presentation entitled: “Turn Up the Heat: How to Reduce Costs through Airflow Containment and New ASHRAE Guidelines.” Offering a pathway toward reduced cooling costs in data centers through airflow containment and the new ASHRAE recommendations for higher set points on cooling equipment, the presentation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, from 1:30-4:30pm. The official seminar description is as follows:

The only way to balance the rising tide of energy consumption by US data centers is to maximize cooling efficiency. This presentation describes specific methods for containing a data center’s airflow on the cable, cabinet and aisle level, and how those strategies lead to reduced operating costs. Of the numerous factors that help optimize these containment strategies, having higher set points on cooling equipment is one of the most important. This approach fits hand in hand with the expanded ASHRAE environmental guidelines for IT equipment, which state there are specific financial rewards connected to allowing higher temperatures in the data center. A brief overview of ASHRAE’s new “Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments” will be followed by an in-depth explanation of the handbook’s new flow charts—an ideal tool for determining a personalized ROI based on higher set points and how they relate to specific applications.

The 2013 BICSI Winter Conference will be held in Tampa, Fla., Jan. 20-24. CPI will also be exhibiting at this conference in Booth # 701.
