Considerations for Intelligent Power Management within High-Density Deployments
New White Paper by Chatsworth Products Reveals Key Factors

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Dec. 8, 2016 — As data centers deploy virtualization and consolidate equipment for more efficient computing, the average rack power density is constantly rising. Chatsworth Products (CPI), the experts in data center power management, presents six keyIntelligent Power White Paper considerations for deploying intelligent power distribution units (PDUs) in high-density cabinets, as well as demonstrates the management of cost and security associated with the deployment of PDUs.

“Considerations for Intelligent Power Management within High-Density Deployments” by Ashish Moondra, CPI Sr. Product Manager of Power, Electronics & Software, examines how virtualization and equipment consolidation are causing rack power densities to continuously rise. While an average cabinet supported 3 - 4 kW a few years ago, today that power load is considered in low-density environments. It is not uncommon to have cabinets drawing 9 - 15 kW and in many instances, higher than that.

With the rise in processing being done at every cabinet, strong attention needs to be paid to the cabinet power distribution strategy so that the highest levels of availability and efficiency are achieved with minimum management overhead.

To ensure highly available power to IT equipment, all power components in the power chain need to have monitoring capabilities. Rack PDUs represent the last leg of the power chain. Therefore, it is critical for organizations to choose rack PDUs with monitoring capabilities for high-density deployments.

This paper discusses the electrical, physical and management considerations for effective cabinet-level power management within such high-density scenarios. Download the white paper to find out more and for more information about CPI’s power management solutions, visit the website.
