New Zone, Wireless Enclosures Increase LAN Options

CPI Continues to Meet New Technology Demands With the Addition of New Products

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – June 6, 2005 - Chatsworth Products, Inc. (CPI), a leading manufacturer of structural support systems designed to organize, store and secure computer and communications networks, expands its line of zone cabling, wireless enclosures and wall-mounted racks; further simplifying growth, mobility and reorganization in the work place.

The mobile workforce requires a flexible workspace where it is easy to deploy new technologies, add or move workers, and service cabling with minimal disruption to the work area. This can be accomplished using zone cabling technology. Zone enclosures are placed close to the users within the work area – above drop ceilings, under raised floors, even inside cubicle wall panels. This greatly reduces the distance between the cross-connect and the user when compared with traditional "home-run" cabling methods, making the floor plan easier and less costly to reconfigure.

CPI currently offers zone enclosures from American Access Technologies, Inc. for both passive and active zones. Two new enclosures are being added to provide additional options and flexibility above a drop ceiling or under a raised floor.

The new 2’x 4’ Enclosure for Drop Ceilings is a consolidation point and telecommunications enclosure that supports multiple users or network connections. Three versions are available to support 110-style blocks, patch panels or active equipment. The A1224-LP supports the 110-style blocks on removable mounting plates, while the A1224-PP features two removable 19” EIA by 4 RMU mounting brackets for patch panels. Active equipment is stored in the A1224-HR, which includes mounting brackets, as well as an internal two-speed fan and integrated junction box. Equipment may be mounted inside the enclosure or on the door. Pneumatic assist brackets ensure the door opens slowly and safely.

The new 2’x 2’ Fiber Enclosure for Raised Floors is designed specifically to provide easy access to a rack-mount fiber enclosure when it is located under a raised floor. Placing connections under the floor saves valuable rack-mount space within cabinets, and allows the data center to be easily reconfigured – just unplug the patch cords and move the cabinet. The enclosure includes a pair of vertical 19” EIA brackets that provide 4 RMU of equipment-mounting space and has two cable access ports with foam sealing kits. It is also UL Listed for use in air-handling spaces.

For larger applications, CPI’s popular Cube-iT Plus™ Cabinet System now includes five- and six-foot enclosures. These large wall-mounted, floor-supported cabinets are sturdy enough to support up to a 1,000 pounds of cross-connect equipment. The Cube-iT Plus is copper and fiber ready and provides easy access to the front or rear of the cabinet. Key features of the cabinet include a swing out body, pre-punched knockouts for conduit, interior cable tie points, a pair of adjustable depth 19” EIA mounting rails, a vented body, keyed locks on front and back, and a unique hasp to assist in drawing the body components together during the locking action. A complete line of accessories is available.

Select the new EasySwing™ Wall-Mount Rack  family of products for a cost-effective, easy-to-install solution that stores equipment in networking, telecommunications and equipment rooms where floor space is limited. EasySwing is copper and fiber ready and can hold up to 85 pounds of 19” EIA mounted equipment. EasySwing is available in three heights, four depths and three finishes. It ships pre-assembled and folded to fit in a 4-inch high box – simply unfold and mount.

Wireless technology takes office mobility to the next step. Wireless LANs (WLAN) connect network users via radio signals – eliminating the need to connect users with cables. According to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), wireless communications will grow by 9.3 percent in 2005 with a 10 percent compound annual growth rate from 2005 to 2008. As companies move toward wireless technology, the necessity for designing a smart wireless infrastructure becomes a must. An important part of this infrastructure is the wireless enclosures that house wireless access points and bridges close to network users.

CPI now has an expanded selection of ceiling-mounted wireless enclosures including a new Universal Faceplate for the AAT-CAP enclosure. Universal Faceplate is compatible with most wireless devices, allowing antennas to pass through the access door of the AAT-CAP enclosure for maximum coverage of the workspace. CPI has also added a new version of the AAT-CAP enclosure that includes junction box for wireless access points that require a direct power connection.
