CPI Adds RMU Markings to Racks and Four-Post Systems

Free Enhancement Reduces Installation Time

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – December 1, 2003 – Chatsworth Products, Inc. (CPI), a 100% employee-owned leading manufacturer of structural support systems for technology equipment, announces the addition of Rack-Mount Unit (RMU) markings to the company’s freestanding racks and cabinets. The addition of RMU markings as a free enhancement will save customers and contractors valuable time during installation of components.

Industry standard EIA-310-D establishes the guideline of placing RMUs at 1.75" intervals for consistent vertical alignment and spacing of equipment attachment points. Proximity of rack-mount equipment impacts overall network performance; therefore, allocations of RMUs must be carefully planned. CPI has integrated visual RMU markings on rack channels and cabinet rails to help installers specify individual mounting locations without measuring or counting holes. The result is reduced equipment installation time and simplified matching of mounting locations from unit to unit. RMU markings also allow users to see potential spaces for future growth and help keep rack space organized after the system is placed in service.

CPI’s new RMU markings begin at the bottom of the channels and rails for consistent positioning regardless of rack or cabinet height. Cabinets feature the added flexibility to place RMU No. 1 at the top by reversing rails in the field. Subtle, light-blue markings on rack channels and gray markings on cabinet rails are easily visible yet do not detract from the aesthetic appeal of the installation.

Systems already in use can be modified to include RMU markings. For racks and four-post frames, an RMU Label Kit is available from CPI. For cabinets, new RMU-marked equipment mounting rails can be purchased separately for an easy upgrade.
